Ongoing Upgrade At Liverpool Street
As necessary upgrade work continues on part of the railway line between Maryland near Stratford in East London and one of the capital’s busiest railway stations London’s Liverpool Street.
Part of the maintenance upgrade project requires the team to work throughout the 27 hour possession period to complete the project scheduled for conclusion by the end of March 2007 for Network Rail.
John Humphrey is the Production Supervisor on the job and it’s down to him to ensure that the team complete their shifts and the job in hand.
“Basically we run teams of twelve on a rotating shift process. We start at midnight on Saturdays and finish around 5am on the Monday morning. Our guys are used to the night shifts and work hard to ensure that the job is completed safely and on time.”
He added “Our role here is to install new cast crossings and FV switches at Maryland and slip switches and BV switches at Liverpool Street so that all maintenance standards are up to date.”
Part of the remit to carry out the necessary upgrades also involves making sure that the excess materials and scrap be removed from the site and are transferred to the dedicated recycling facility appointed by Network Rail.
